I'm trying to decide on which processor go for. I'm going to try overclocking for the first time and after reading all about the 5200 I was going to get one and give it a shot. Partly due to if I manage to toast it, its no great loss as its cheap.

That said, I'm wondering whether its worth spending more and getting the 7400 instead? Will that CPU give a significant advantage when overclocking over the 5200?

thanks in advance :)

It will clock higher but it's up to you whether it's worth another £50. And as long as you stay sensible on the voltages when you overclock you aren't going to fry your chip.

Well I'm thinking that anything will be a good improvement over my existing Athlon 64 3500+ :)

My current thoughts are to go with the 5200 just now and then upgrade it in about 12 months to something better. Sound like a good plan?

I would say E5200. Either that or E8*00. The E7400 is too close to E8*00 money for me.
