Hi there, I have just finished putting my new rig together,

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 (2.4GHz)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Asus P5B Duluxe
Crucial Ballistic PC2-6400 (2x1GB)
ATI Radeon HIS X1950Pro

I haven't loaded Windows XP yet, I am just monitoring the temperatures in the BIOS at the moment. I am getting 41.5 degrees C.

Are these temperatures OK because I have read posts about some people getting their temperatures in the high 20's.

I have applied the Arctic Silver 5 paste exactly how it should be applied.

Is 41.5 OK,

Thanks in advance.

I think the problem with quoting Cpu temps in general, let alone with the C2D is there are many variables which people dont state.

Firstly regarding the C2D, there is a very informative article over on tomshardware detailing all 3 sensors on the C2D.

Regarding the Asus P5B, if u enable PECI in bios it reduces the reported temperature (tcase) by a significant margin, in my case from 41 down to 21C.

Basically TAT reports the temps of the thermal diodes embedded in each core (tjunction), wheareas tcase is the temp of the thermal diode between the cores. Motherboards read this temp (tcase), and apply it to a set of tables which are in the bios, to estimate the average temp of the heatspreader.

This all sounds rather stupid to me as this temp is entirely dependant on what the manufacturer decides, and not on the real world temp of the cpu.

Then of course there is ambient temp, cpu speed, heatsink, etc etc.

Currently my Setup is a C2D 6600 @ stock w/stock heatsink

Ambient = 22C
Core1 = 28C
Core2 = 29C
tcase = 21C

This is with PECI enabled in bios

Hope this helps

All this is interesting to know, thanks for this info.

BTW, what application is everyone else using to monitor their temps, I'm using Asus probe 2 and in windows it reports the CPU 40 degrees idle and motherboard 37 degrees idle.

Under load my CPU temps have never gone over 51.5 Degrees.

I've enabled PECI in the bios and the temp readings have dropped just like a few others have reported. ASUS probe now reports my CPU temps as around 23-24 degrees idle, and about 41 degrees under load.

The problem i'm having is the MB temp warning that I get from ASUS probe. Sometimes when i'm playing a game, it goes to 45 degrees and gives a warning.

Is ASUS probe reporting this temperature correctly, what temperature reading do other ASUS P5B Deluxe owners get for their MB TEMP?

Cheers guys,
