I've been offered a Core 2 duo 2GB 13.3" macbook for just under £100. Is this a decent deal? I have been wanting to learn OSX for awhile now but didnt fancy shelling out the money for a macbook. If i stuck an SSD in this would it have pretty reasonable performance for learning osx / browsing etc?

With an SSD in, they still perform reasonably. Would probably want to get more memory in there though!
I'd go for it, you can always sell it on for slightly more.

That is a bargain! I'd snap that up! Just bear in mind I don't think the black MacBooks will support the latest version of OS X which is 10.9 Mavericks. I'm guessing you'd run OS X Lion/Mountain Lion fine though.

In regards to installing an SSD that should run fine and you'd see quite an increase in speed. But as the post before mine states might be worth bumping up the RAM too and you'll have yourself a nice little machine there ;)

Enjoy!

My white core 2 duo was still going fine until it died a watery death not to long ago. If I could fix mine for £100 I probably would so I say go for it

If it's the CoreDuo, I don't think you can add more than 2gb of memory. SSD would make a difference, but it'll be running at sata1 speeds.
GMA950, so will be a bit miserable for anything demanding, but would do the job for browsing, etc...

Maybe still worth a punt at £80 though.

I have a Mac Mini 2.0ghz C2D (not core duo) with GMA950 and 4gb RAM.

It's much better on Snow Leopard than any later iterations. Don't think Mavericks is supported.

I imagine the above is applicable to MAcBooks too. Hope this helps.
