Just got my C2D 6300 and a a asus p5b with a thermtake blue orb

and i'm getting a temp reading of 44 with no over clocking and 48 when i overclock to about 2.4 is this a problem?

also how much thermal paste stuff should you put on a cpu?

bit of a pants overclock, not seen them fail to get 3ghz before!
temps are only an issue if they stop your system being stable.

i'm new to this over clocking, so i'm taking it slowely.

i'm just trying stuff out.

currents have the ram at 1050mhz and the cpu at 2.3

has one got the setting they use for a stable 3ghz on a Asus p5b board.

Have you dropped your ram divider, for example mine picks my ddr800 ram up at that speed, i drop the divider down and it picks it up at 533mhz, this gives you chances of a better overclock, mines at 2.8 and the ram is running at 800mhz.

how do i do all this??

i'm a proper noob..

i've got the multiplier and bus adjustment sorted

all this memory and pci (voltages and speeds) are new to me

okey now i'm getting

core speed = 3008.2mhz
multiplier = 7
freq = 429.8mhz
Vcore voltage = 1.232
rated FSB 1719.0mhz

ram frequency 429.8mhz
timings = 4-4-4-12

seems stable :D

just running orthos now and the temps are about 52/50 is that too high???
