Core 2 Duo E6300 question

Hi,

Just installed my core 2 duo E6300, and according to my bios the CPU temp is in the 30 - 35 degree area. Thats not with windows installed yet, thats just me in the bios.

My heatsinc temp sensor is recording temps of about 35 degrees.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

For your reference my E6300 is overclocked to 2.1Ghz on a 300FSB. It idles at around 40 in CoreTemp and touches 50 after having a 100% load all night long. That's with an Akasa 955 cooler which admittedly isn't the best out there ;)

The conroes are very cool running cards though so I don't think you need a fantastic cooler for them unless you plan on some major overclocking.

Still quite high for a 2.1 :o im clocked @ 3.22 and get 35 - 38 idle :o

I guess that is with a better cooler though :P

Well one of my cores is at 37C, the other is at 40C. I have Steam and uTorrent downloading atm so I assume they're both on the one core which explains the slightly higher temp. I have a hard time pushing my CPU far enough to even rev up the CPU fan. I love conroes :D

Bit of an update

installed windows and got core temp beta 0.93 running.
(im new to core temp) and CPU temp readings are

Tjunction 85.0C
Core#0: 42C
Core#1: 42C

this is at idle.

when i was running SP2004 Orthos, temps were as high as 52C

this is not overclocked, just completely standard.

Heatsinc temp sensor records 32C

Is this normal?

core temp takes on die readings close to the hottest part of the cpu, it'll be higher than your bios reading. I get 55c max @ 3.15ghz.. what cooler?

if that's a stock cooler it seems fairly normal. Mine is idling at 42/44 (coretemp) @ 2.5 w\ AC7Pro, load 51-ish
I'm probably going to reseat it soon when I get some AS5 anyway. Not that I'm unhappy with these temps

rite kids this is really confusing now

with SP2004 Orthos, temp readings were about 42C
but with speed fan, temps are about 30 C at idle

which one do i believe?

the speed fan's 30 C is closer to the temp of my heatsinc according to my probe

@Zogger: 42/44 is a bit high considering your cooler. Definitely reseat with arctic silver. You should be down around 38-40 even at that OC.

Always go by the CoreTemp readings. They are the temperature your chip is truly at. Any other readings are taken off the mobo heat sensor that is away from the hottest part of the CPU.

Remember to run the Dual Core Orthos build to test your system to its fullest.

OK gone back to the dual core Orthos and Core Temp, and at idle its giving temps of about 35 - 38C for both cores. When Orthos is putting stress on the processor and RAM, temps go to about 45 - 50C

Heatsinc probe is recording 28C

Dude mine is running @ 56/57C both cores as reported by core temp. I suppose the Sonata II is pants for cooling, I might have to invest in a better cooler  Although saying that I have already reseated the HSF (using the retail) and applied AS so I don't know why it's so hot :/ Sorry if I have Hijacked your thread

Your correct there mate, i was getting scorching temps, even with a front intake fan, i modded my sonata for better airflow - many have seen this in other threads already, sorry if its getting a bit repetative - but i love it!!

Dropped temps by 10 - 12 degrees both idle & load

Sorry for invading thread!!!

That's Brilliant, thanks a lot for your help mate, looks like a mod might be needed :) I don't suppose your using that exhaust thing that you can put 2 fans in are you ? I am using it with 2 fans (ambers) above the CPU and GFX card and still scorchio!

Nah i had to take these out as i have a Big Typhoon cooler, couldnt fint the exhausts and the cooler in at the same time. bear in mind all my fans are running 7v (including the cpu cooler) and my exhaust fan that came with the case on the lowest setting. With it being pretty cold at the moment, im getting close to 30idle the last few days.

Have you got your fans blowing onto the cards and heatsink or sucking air out? Id reccomend them blowing air into the case. :)

well just booted up, and its idleing at 41C with the case door on.
No doubt if i take it off, temp will drop to 36C ish?!

Its also on the carpet at the mo, so hoping that might change when its on a desk.

Im just using a huge heat sinc with a fan strapped to it sucking the hot air out

Yeah they are blowing air out atm. I might just have to change that completely and switch them so that they are the other way around, that way they are blowing cold air into the case and the big fan is sucking air out :). And Quronos those temps look good mate, my case is also on the floor so that could also be a problem. I wouldn't reccomend leaving the side panel off though as this can disrupt airflow and cause overheating (had a bad experience with my previous rig :))
