Hello,

Apologies if this should be in the windows forum. It seemed pretty relevant here.

I've just built a system around an E6600. I've got a creepy feeling that it isn't necessarily using both cores. I dunno why - I just want to check that it is.

Given that I've only just finished building it, I haven't really checked it all out yet. I see to have more time at work browsing the forums! But:

1] Does windows need patching to use both cores? Is it worth getting this? http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256

2] How do you suggest watching the behaviour of the new processors? Is it really possible to see one app running on one core and another app running on another core or is it more complex than that?

Thanks!

Having a CPU that has more then one core and a OS that supports more then one logical processor is one thing. Having programs which can utilize more then one processor is another thing.

Most of the time you will see both processors doign 50% ish on programs who don't support multi-threading.
