How can one identify their stepping?

Just received my new chip (how excited am I!!)

Here's whats on top

Intel (M)(C)'05
Intel(R) Core2 Duo
6300 SL9SA MALAY
1.86GH\/2M/1066/06
L626A130

There's some other numbers at the bottom... What are they about?

Thats the batch number

Week 26 is only just here and there in the USA and proving to be a storming overclocker so far the highest clocks!

You need to run CPUZ to get the full stepping

It'll be a 6 B2 as all are now! Only OEM and ES are differnt

Like my ES is a B0 Stepping 4 but is clocking more than most heheh!

Might see 3.7ghz on yours as one has hit it already on water

Main thing, get shot of speestep! So power bills 110% power 24/7 i thinks!

Well, clocking is quite low on my list so far. Need a running rig first.

I've got 3 hours of work to sit through too lol.

LOl yep indeed ya do, took me a day on mine to get it running stock fully.

2Gb GSkill PC6400 DDR2

Need to run it @ DDR 533 to work okay!!

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 - New bios out i'll get you a link!

If you got raid going on have fun...Ds4 have been spititng on raid a bit
 
Umm just ask the mother if living athome or the misis for lots of cleaning up stuff!!!

if you have it set up right you'll wet ya self and seeing as you have a week 26 chip it's going to clock!

By way where you get cpu from here or other?

I WOULD have got it from OCuK. I placed my order monday, as the website said they were in stock. I rang them up Tuesday to enquire where it was, and they said they had no stock.

I promptly cancelled the order and made it somewhere else. I don't think i'm allowed to say where I got it from. (publically, at least)

Are there any other places where people are reporting their clocks based on CPU?
 
Yep, all Intel testers are being given and sent dated batches

All ES byers are getting it

OEM pc builders

Retail shops and users are reporting

Xs, *****, Bit-tec, google

Possible newer stepping to come out as well

Have a look here [H] conroe database , stuck mine on for a giggle.
 
I don't really understand all this about stepping but I found this on the Enquirer stating something about the steppings on the current conroes (sorry if I'm a bit thick) ;

WEB site HKEPC reports that Intel is likely to release a B-2 stepping of its forthcoming Conroe processor.
These desktop chips will be branded as Core 2 Duo chips.

The web site said Intel has encountered several problems that made it decide to do a further stepping. Most of the problems are solved in Stepping B-2 - it advises buyers to beware of engineering samples up for sale on the wibbly wobbly web. This presumably also goes for reviews of Conroe using engineering samples, too. µ

Does this mean there is a fault with the current Conroe's? and if so can anyone tell me what the problem is?

Just wasted my lunchtime trawling the net for stepping info.

Am I right in saying stepping 6 B2 was the release stepping after bugs were found in the original engineering samples? Something to do with freezing due to no idle time and problems with certain raid configurations and the new stepping not being compatible with the current 965 chipset until c-2 steppings are released?

Its all doing my head in. I presume i'm reading too much into this and should just take the plunge
