Ok i recently moved my old mobo/cpu/ram across to my server pc. I have a Core 2 Duo in an Asus P5B Deluxe board (stock cooler). The BIOS is showing 80 degrees +. I didnt remove the heatsink and it looks firmly in place why the high temps all of a sudden. Should i install windows then run some other programs?

I would be inclined to say the cooler has moved, I would re-mount the cooler with fresh paste and then check the BIOS temps.

Bad mount job. Do again?

Even with the stock, you shouldn't be getting past 60c.

Those Duo's are pretty hot though. Even my E8500 is 48c average on idle under a Noctua D-14. But then again, it's over clocked and my room temp is pretty toasty.

Didn't the early Core 2's have a bug with the temperature sensor? Mine always shows 1 core 10 degrees hotter than the other no matter what software I use for monitoring.
