Core 2 Duo temps question

I'm about to make the move to an E6420 and having been off the cooling/clocking circuit for rather a long time I have NO idea what temps to expect from this chip, or even it's max tolerated temp.

Add to this an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and the intention to overclock...

Read plenty of reviews for this cooler but most seem to be using older Pentiums on their testbed.

Just interested in how far I can push this sort of chip on this cooler, and any other info I can get :)

I got an E6600 and an AC7 Pro, my temps are around 38c idle and 52c under load, overclocked to 3GHz atm. Anything under 60c under load is fine.

But don't beat yourself up if your temps are over 60c load is what I'd add...

These chips can run quite happily a lot hotter than 60c. They don't even start to throttle until in the 80s.

Nothing your pc does day to day will stress it like Orthos etc etc, so you'll get nowhere near max load most of the time.

I am running an E6600 @ 3.5ghz (395/1:1/4-4-4-12/1.43v) 24/7 max temp under load is 62c, using an ACF7 cooler and Antec 900 case

naiiiiiiiiiiice, got same chip, cooler and case, i've never been able to get 3.5GHz completly stable, i thinks its my RAM, dont suppose you mind telling me what RAM and volts you used can you? thanks.

Sure, no problem.

Ram used is 2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX, Voltage is set to 2.1v

If it makes any difference I am using the Abit Aw9D Max Mobo

My idle temps and voltages as reported by Everest:

It's only at 2.8ghz due to my ram and it has always run fairly cool. Only ever hit 45c with a freezer 7 pro :)

Edit:

e6300, stock volts, 2.8ghz and the latest version of coretemp (0.95)

I wish I could afford a better motherboard and RAM though... it quite happily did 2.8ghz with the voltage set to 1.15v using CrystalCPUID so it seems to have loads of potential :(

Plenty of cheap Mobo's around that run RAM unlinked, £70 could have that chip at 3.5ghz
