Ive been looking at reviews of the Core 2 Duo Processors and the Core 2 Duo 6600 seems to be on par with the Amd 64 4600+

Now I currently have a Barton 2800+ will I notice a massive increase in CPu power if i go for the Core2 Due 6600?

Is there a Core2 Duo CPU which is the same comparable speed as my current CPU, or will any Core2Duo be an improvement?

Any C2D will be an improvement tbh, all depends on how much you are willing to spend. The 2160s are amazing value for money as a lot of them can be overclocked considerably an stock volts.

I went from an XP3000 to a C2D 6300 and the difference was amazing.

What about temperatures?
This is really my main concern here - the base temp of the Chip

AMDs are known to run hot - will the Core 2 Duo run cooler?

At stock, but it overclocks A LOT :)

I did exactly that transition, let me just say "Oh yes" :D

As all the C2D will clock to 3 GHz, they are all faster than your current system. I'd get a e2160 for price / performance (see sig for performance comparison).

it all depends what software you use tbh.
for example its not going to make your emails faster or make you better at solitare. :p
if you play games or use it for intensive programs then yes:D
