OK guys, need some help here.

Looking to upgrade and not sure which chip to get

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

OR

Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz (533FSB)

I have read reviews and both achieve around 3.6 on air with decent Volts ands Temps.

The 805 is £100 cheaper than the Conroe, so there must be a reason, I just don't know what.

Is the cost worth it?

Cheers Guys

So where would I notice the improvement? In games or just multi-tasking?

What would be the best board to go for do you guys think, and would I need to change my RAM?

Ok,

Well if I were to keep my current RAM is there a similar skt 939 chip that I would be able to get to boost my performance?

up to about 200 quid I guess if my board will take the new chip

Wow, Very comprehensive. Thanks

I don't do much gaming on the PC at the moment, SupComm, C&C3 and Stalker, have a 360 so most of my gaming is done on there, the only change will be when the likes of HL2 Ep2 and Crysis come out.

I do a lot of converting xvid to DVD and unpacking large (7GB ish) files, but I don't think upgrading will make that much difference for what I want.

Maybe I'll leave it till Crysis comes out and overhaul my whole rig, I'm running @ nearly 3Ghz now so maybe for 300-600mhz difference it's a little pointless spending atm.
