its nothing to do with them being C2D its just there currently the most popular meaning more people are building computers with them, if it was AMD X2's that where more popular, it would be the same with them.
 
And you also have to remember that people don't usually post that they have just booted up their pc. People post because they have problems and want advice. Therefore it looks like a lot of people are having problems! ;)
