Core 2 Quad or Quad Xeon

Hey folks,

New around here. I am looking to build a new PC and I'm having a think about processors at the moment. My PC is going to be used to cover a few things, mainly 3D Production and Digital HD Video Editing. I am wondering what the recommended process might be and what to go for between Core 2 Quad and Quad Xeon. Are there pluses and minuses with each reguarding great performance without having to buy an Extreme Processor?

I assume you're talking about the socket 775 Xeons?

If so, then there's no differece between them and their C2Q counterparts.

Is there anything out there that might support duel CPUs? Not sure if something like this will be tricky to put together and if much supports duel CPUs unless your building a server.

Look up intel skulltrail if you can find it, that supports dual cpu's, not sure how well though

You'll need to go for socket 771 Xeons and motherboards for a dual-socket set-up. And they're quite expensive.

The Intel Skulltrail motherboard is the only home-user orientated board, and needs FB-DIMM memory.

Plus it is only pci-e 1.1 16x so not good for crossfire.

Do you think the "Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor" might be any good? You guys had any experiance with it?

Is meant to be good, no experience with it myself, although apparently you can overclock it well.

It's very good, but whether it's worth the extra money over the Q6600 is questionable.

But if you have the money then go for it.

The Q9450 is bieng axed soon and the Q9550 will drop in price to take its place, so if you can hang fire for a few more weeks till this happens then you can get a bit more for your money.

The Q9450 is worth it if you do video editing and if the programs supports SSE4.1 then it will be a lot faster. I use the Adobe CS3 suite and theres a difference.

get the x3350, it clockers better than the 9450, doesnt need as many volts.

Id say probably in the next 3 or 4 weeks.
