Core 2 Quad Pro Q6700

I currently have the pentium D 3.73 processor and was wondering whether it's time to upgrade to quad core processor this one:

Is it worth upgrading and is this the best choice, I don't really want to spend more than £400.

Also would it work on my current board the intel Desktop Board D975XBX.

To be honest overclocking has never been my thing. I would be very worried in case I did it wrong or it overheated. I know this sort of thing is comman knowledge to most OcUK forum users but not me sadly.

Will these CPU's work with the Desktop Board D975XBX?

Also can somebody confirm whether it is a worthwhile upgrade over the CPU I currently have?

Link below shows your motherboard supports core 2 duo but I can't find any note on quad processors.

Revision 304 (and above) supports Core 2 Duo, Quad Core support is only official on the D975XBX2 but it should work unofficially on a revision 304 XBX (at least, early samples did) with a recent BIOS.
