i just did a quick search on all my hardware using googles shopping thing... see how the prices matched up these days.. why is it that my processor the above mentioned.. was at lowest £231?..

are they getting that rare that the price is shooting up for anyone wanting one?

The production of these stopped a long time ago so new stock is likely extremely rare, thus expensive. 2nd hand price on the other hand...

i reckon i could still get £150 for mine on the bay.. seems decent really an i5 quad are 149.99 n thats newer tech

yup most people using dual cores on 775skt cba upgrading there whole rig and see it worth while spending over the odd's on old tech but if you've got the time and effort you could make a good amount off money on the parts you've got as ddr2 prices are holding well i sold my skt775 platorm q6600 4gb dominators and a broken x48 rampage for £180 and got a full i7 920 for £270 not a bad upgrade for £90 and if you look at second hand i5 platforms as there going to be killed off start of this year youll get one of them for very little money ;)

i was actually hoping to make a step up to the i5 quads sooner rather than later, selling my current set up as a cash booster basically. i figure i could get a i5/mobo/ddr3 ram for under£300 maybe. which is a decent enough step up for me :) if i could sell my whole pc to someone for £500 then i think i could build a complete new rig for just short of £600 but sadly theres no one to buy it -.- i was under the idea that there was a thread on the webby for people who sell things on here for other users? but i cant find it anywhere O.o

Edit: i see the member market thing rules now :). 250posts.. arghh! long way to go

I think 500 is a bit ambitious to say the least, especially on members Market. IMO your setup is still very decent, it's worth waiting for the new sandybridge chips early next year if you're not in a hurry to upgrade.

maybe, still though ino someone who just sold a q6600 set up with a 8800gt for £450.. so i dont think its too ambitious to expect £50 more for a much better gfx card and cpu?

dont need the 9400 lol im using the 9450.. same processing speed, twice as much cache. just didnt realise it was so expensive these days.. i bought it off ocuk for £130 about a year ago

Oh right sorry, i misunderstood yea i found out the hard way they had shot up in price as i went to get one earlier this month :/

They are a popular chip for the common 775 (loads of dual core peeps looking to upgrade) and hard to purchase new. Supply and demand. You can get one for about £100-130 second hand if patient, also a Q9550 for around £130-150. Of course, they may have been abused as they are epic overclocking chips!

Can't see me letting go of my Q9450 for a long time yet. Games are GPU limited at 1080p and I just don't use the CPU for anything that isn't easily accomplished by a 3.5Ghz overclocked Core2 Quad.

Agree it is a good chip to have for £100-140 wouldn't go as far as 200+ for one tho, I only have mine at 3.2ghz, mainly cos my mobo only goes upto a 1600fsb and it reaches that at 3.2.. So I dno how to push it without blue screening.. I don't know Anything that needs more power than 3.2 anyway so Tis fine for me!

How times have changed. I remember paying £89 for a mobile Athlon XP many moons ago and I thought it was the best overclocking chip ever!!!! :D

Then we can go back to the Celeron 300A.... so excited to overclock a chip so it could run old school console and computer emulators with ease!

How good we have it these days - tech is really cheap when you think about it now, even if we still like to moan about prices.

Very much so, I bought my original pc, pentium dual core 1.6ghz, 1gb ram 160 hdd no gfx DVD drive..300w non branded psu! Cost me £400 o.O I asked certain people at a shop for a pc I could game with and they had my eyes out and told me this would be fine -.- integrated gfx for cs = fail35fps if lucky! I didn't have a clue!

Dear God you make me feel old! :(

Same here. The first pc I bought myself was a Pentium II 266 that cost £1400. I then spent another £100 and odd on a vodoo 2 card so I could actually play some games.

I'm happy with my current overclocked Q9450 @ 3.4ghz and I've no need to upgrade it any time soon. In fact if I wanted a speed boost I'd just get some faster ram as that's currently pushed as far as it'll go.

My first Pc was a BBC Master 128k for £490-£500ish back in the day...1980's

128k memory lol :) It still played Repton and Dare Devil Dennis etc no sweat :)
