Hello all, well my Q6600 has died due to my PSU blowing up, finally figured out it is the cpu not anything else after numerous tests. So which do you guys recommend I get to replace it?

My MB is a P5Q pro.

I see, thanks I didn't realise that! Is the Q9550 good for overclocking then? I would like to be able to get to similar if not better than my current (now dead) q6600.

Its not so bad, you'll have access as soon as you hit 250 posts.
The q9550 clocks nicely. I've only taken mine to 3.6 so far, a lot of other people seem to have them at 4ghz. A 3.9ghz stable q6600 was a very good effort, and will be tricky to beat conclusively. Especially with air cooling.

The q9650 clocks better, and given it's only available in the nominally quicker stepping may be more what you're looking for.

The q650 is a lot more moolar though! Eek. Actually looking at my post count I'm almost there, maybe I'l wait before I order one to see if any are going on there. Thanks for the advice folks, always appreciated.

wrayvon, how much $ you have for new proc?
I think Q9550 - the great choise. Look to my sign, you can overclock it to 4.0GHz simply. ;)

They have a Q9650/9550 in socket 775?

Oh man, my Q6600 is a 1.325 VID so only clocks stable to 3.1GHz on my mobo (P5KC) and RAM combo (4x 2GB DDR2 1GHz) - upgrades are in order people!

Thanks :D

Well I don't really have a budget, but I cant justify spending an extra 80quid on the 650 over the 550. I am sending it back yes, but it takes up to 90 days apparently! (it has to go back to manufacturer as its over a year old) So i'm going to buy a new one, and if I'm lucky and get a spare q6600 and sell it!
