Currently running a 2500k with 16GB of 1866MHz RAM. Every time I look at upgrading I get scared off by the price and the fact clock speeds have barely increased since 7 years ago (yes I do know it's not all about that anymore but it doesn't help when trying to convince myself)! I have a decent graphics card (1070) and SSD so not looking to upgrade anything other than CPU, motherboard and memory. I pretty much just game on it. Not sure whether to go X299 or Z370. What would be a good combo or should I just go with this:
