Core i3-6100 vs AMD A8 7600.

Which is the best all round CPU? I know the AMD has the better GPU (Or does it?).

This is for a nephews New build where money is tight. I think he will eventually get a new dedicated GPU when money is available. He has no PC so all new bits have to be bought except i can supply a PSU and SSD for him. I think his brother has a case for him (Micro ATX).

He will want to game a little i guess. Thanks for any advice

The Skylake i3 absolutely spanks the A8 in every category, including graphics. They're not even in the same league.

The A8 might have had the advantage in GPU over Haswell based i3's but you'd need to step up to an A10 to match them now and you'd still be losing out on CPU power.

Any links where i can see that? Interesting what you say. Ta

I don't know what Tom's were smoking when they got those results, because everywhere else has Kaveri beating Skylake in every test.

Alien Isolation, Total War, GTAV, GRID, Shadow of Mordor: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation/20

Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Firestrike: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/core_i5_6600k_processor_review_desktop_skylake,14.html

Firestrike, AvP, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs: http://www.computershopper.com/components/reviews/intel-core-i5-6600k/(page)/3#review-body

Thats what i was wondering as i thought the Kaveri was ahead

The A8-7600 seems to do extremely well!

The kaveri is much faster than an i3 in games, skylake or not. Those Tom's Hardware results are highly suspect, as already noted.

If you wait until next week, I suspect you'll be able to pick up one of the higher SKU Kaveris for the same price. Furthermore, there's a possibility that the Godavari (Kaveri refresh) chips may drop to retail before Xmas.

Explain?

Apparently so, I'd only checked a couple of sources and saw the 6100 keeping up with the A10 meaning the A8 should have been slower. That'll teach me for doing a quick browse at work :p

It still murders the AMD on everything other than GPU performance though.

It may murder everything else but that is only in benchmarks! Would one actually notice those difference in 'real life?'

Dual core i3 Skylake looks like a good CPU. Quite a few to choose from! AMD APU are good too though but i do keep reading that the Intel are far superior in everything else other than gaming.

Now, i know that my Nephew will be using the PC for a 'little' gaming but mostly it will be used for his Uni work etc. Would an Intel be the better bet or should he stick with AMD?

I did mention the 7870K to his dad as i have that one and for me it is great but i am no speed freak and wouldn't be able to tell any differences between different CPUs!

Stretching the budget a bit more he could go for the:

7879K or the Core i3-6300 3.80GHz. I notice that there is not much difference between the 2 in price. Its definitely a headache when you are helping a relative to put together a nice PC as his dad is worse than me when it comes to tech even though i am not a complete noob.

As i stated before, we have a PSU and an SSD ready and a case.

He has a laptop which he hates.

He wants a decent PC but limited due to money available even with help from his dad and me.
