was going to upgrade my gpu from a gtx 670 to a r9 390, was just wondering if my cpu is able to take advantage of the power of the new gpu?

thanks.

ps. my cpu is running stock clocks as i have only the stock cooler.

It depends on the game.

For something like GTA V it won't. However, GTA V is possibly the worst case scenario.

Your be fine.

Yes an OC will get more out of the GPU in CPU bottlenecked scenarios, but it doesn't mean the 3570k is ready for the bin yet. It's still a great chip!

Running a 3570k at stock is a offence worthy of a permanent ban on here!! :D:p:D

Seriously though, buy yourself a decent cooler and get that cpu up to around 4.5Ghz. What's the point in paying extra for a unlocked cpu and then running it at stock?

My i5-3450 is coping just about fine with my 980Ti - I'm sure your 3570k has some life left in it. Grab yourself a Hyper 212 Evo and go wild!

Mine runs at 4.6 permanently and so far its been great. Powering a fury no problem at all. Overclocked these chips are still right up there.
