Right, i was going to build an ITX system but i have been given an Antec 300 Case which i used to have years ago and really love it! Decided to put the PC under the table now (In Kitchen, no room elsewhere). I have mounted my monitor on the wall already.

So, i have an empty case and an SSD!! lol

I am aiming to build around this CPU:

Core i5-5675C 3.10GHz (Broadwell) Socket LGA1150

Now, i need:

Micro ATX Board (Not using dedicated GPU or SLi etc)
Ram, not sucre what speed but 8GB should be fine

I have a PSU and a DVDrw drive. Its the Motherboard and ram i need help with please. I have chosen the i5-5675c as it has an awesome onboard GPU.

I was thinking of AMD when i was looking at ITX but i really want to stick with Intel.

So guys, any help at all would be superb!

(If you come up with another CPU combo please feel free to post!)

Personally think Broadwell is a bit of an odd choice.

It would make sense if you had a specific ITX case in mind and didn't have room for a Graphics card.

I assume you aren't planning on Overclocking, in which case something like an I5-4590 would give you similar CPU performance for only £156 vs the £200 of the Broadwell.

Given that you aren't space constrained in the Antec case, youthen have £50 to put towards a graphics card such as an R7 360, which would be faster than the Iris graphics

You also need to bear in mind that if you are buying into Broadwell performance with the intention of playing some games, Intel's drivers still tend to be poor, compared to either AMD or NVIDIA.

Ok, sound advice.

My friend has just told me the card i can have:

Gigabyte GV-N4600C-7681

Thing is, i would still want a CPU that has a decent GPU built in just in case the dedicated GPU doesn't suit as i am not a massive gamer but would like to do some gaming. Would this CPU be a safer bet:

What Micro ATX Board to go with the I5-4590? Ta

That GPU my mate was going to give me has turned out to be dead!

AMD? I know, this has been discussed before but i really do lean towards Intel.

A good Intel Quad with a decent onboard GPU and then maybe a Dedicated GPU after christmas.

Its choosing the right CPU and mobo and ram that confuses me as i am hopeless at components!!

Your CPU choice depends in part on what you mostly use the PC for. You say you don't really game that much - what do you use the PC for?

- What are you planning on using the PC for? - this will help with what you really need.
- Are you planning on overclocking?
- What Monitor do you have? (Any plans to upgrade it)

Broadwell's graphics whilst as good as a £50 low end graphics card, still aren't much to be excited about - if you play games you really need something better, and if you don't the onboard graphics in either Haswell or the newer Skylake are acceptable options.

If budget is tight and you want to play games, then another option could be an I3 and a mid range Graphics card.

Thanks.

Gaming is sporadic as i dont really game at the mo as not been into gaming for years! Thing is, i want to start gaming but i dont want to buy a dedicated GPU yet as money is tight. I use the pc massively but nothing too stressful.

I want a good 'onboard' GPU but still able to add a dedicated GPU at a later date. Ok, i know AMD APU is good for gaming but i think Intel is the right direction.

A good Intel CPU with decent onboard GPU for now until i can afford a dedicated GPU. Monitor is a 20" Samsung 2053BW which gets used rarely as all i currently have is a netbook!!

i would say a good amd system would meet your needs. you can always add a radeon gpu at a later date for x-fire or discrete graphics.

Ok. I am open to suggestions but i have no clue when it comes to CPU, MOBO, RAM combos.

Having used Intel for years now i do like them. I keep reading that AMD are old hat these days.

If someone can give me some good combos of CPU, MOBO & RAM, that would be a massive help.

its an example. obviously you can get a lower set, something like:

Ok, thank, thats much better. Need to determine which would be best, Intel or AMD? Thing is, that is an ITX board! I will be using an Antec 300 case!

i've had both systems, my current being a intel i5 4690k.

i had a lesser chip than that amd one, an A4 i believe, with a 7950 gpu about 2 yrs ago and it ran sweet and played games well. wouldn't have done massive resolutions, but it was fine for me. back then, i got it 2nd hand and both bits for under £120.

I do have a soft spot for Intel!

Your requirements are too vague to give definitive answers - you say you use the PC lots but not what for. Assuming this means 'home office / media centre / browsing' then either Intel or AMD parts will work just fine. You say you don't game but would like to have the option to 'maybe' game in the future. Maybe play GTA V? Or maybe play Minecraft?

If you want to go Intel and Broadwell then do so. It's a good CPU and beats AMD's comparable APUs in gaming, but then it costs a good deal more so it should perform better. Whether the performance gain is worth the extra only you can decide.
