Core i5 650 - 660 and 661 processor review

I did have but sold it.
Heh the short version of that answer would have been "no" :p

I now want to build Home recording rig for my studio that can be rackmounted
Home recording rig hmm? not sure what that is exactly?

This will have all the stuff connected (firewire mixer etc) connnected 24/7
24/7 . . so your gonna have to consider running costs £££ then . . .

Assuming your not poor like me and you got some fund burning a hole in your pocket then the i3 could be just the ticket, two sets of clocks, one for ePeen and benching/gaming and another for day to day useage . .

If you are not cash rich then you may find the Athlon II's suprisingly good for the money! . . . I remember the first time we ever spoke was in 2006 in the Opteron 170 clocking thread so I know you have a soft spot for AMD somewhere in that raisin sized heart of yours! :p

At 90 quid an i3 530 aint looking good compared to a 135 quid oem i5 750:( Could be suprised on relase day but I doubt it.

Loved my opty's but C2D changed all that.

The Q6600's stole my heart even though its the size of a raisin :p

I’ve seen them on a competitor’s site for pre-order, they look a bit pricey

I3 530 retail £95
I3 540 retail £110
I5 650 retail £140
I5 660 retail £152
I5 670 retail £217

What do you mean by that? Do you mean you could get better performance from AMD based parts?

Not really

The i3's still look to be C2D killers for less.

Wishful thinking on the price.

A 90 quid i3 overclocked to 4.5ghz + with a Gigabyte mobo @ 80 and some 4GB DDR3 at 70

Will make a nice combo and will kill a Q6600 and Most of AMD's range in its tracks.

Do you think these new chips once overclocked will kill off the q9550 ?

i would say no but it largly depends what your doing with the chip....

in games maybe but only when everclocked, in multi core apps i would say a Q9550 would beat it but we can't say until they have been released
