Core i5 750 & gaming

should be fine, I am still running a I7 950 @ 4ghz without any issues.

if its not already get a after market cooler and OC the cpu.

whats the rest of your PC and what ress do you game at?

ok, I would be looking at replacing the GPU (if struggling at gaming) and getting a SSD, the SSD will not improve gaming except for loading times of big maps etc but will make the PC run a lot smoother and responsive.

I currently game on my I7 950, 6GB of ram with a Radeon HD 5830. I am looking at replacing this soon (when funds permit) and keeping everything else.

what games do you play?

I'd certainly agree with the SSD comment, will make the computer seem a lot faster if you have the OS on SSD. Won't make games run better, but still a great upgrade.

Your GPU is more likely to hold back in game performance than your CPU, but is still a reasonable GPU so long as you're not after maxing out settings etc - obviously better than the one in my sig, even though I've clocked mine hard.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't push your i5 750 further than 3.5GHz given your cooler is good but it's still a decent speed and most games should run fairly well anyway, if a particular game seems to be giving trouble you could check per-core CPU usage and GPU usage to see if more speed might help and if so then try to clock it higher ( this guide isn't bad )

I checked far cry 4 and CPU is used maybe 60%...son of rome same. So guys, do you think, that OC i750 gonna last as long as this gen consoles?

No it won't, a few games will be better on 6 cores such as the new total war and direct x12 will be able to use more cores.
I5 750 @4ghz + is probably good enough for a couple more years.

6 cores will not be a requirement this console gen, Only when Intel release a 6c cpu on their main platform will you see developpers starting to pay attention and it's not happening anytime soon.

I have a i5-760@4ghz and it's driving an r9 290 tri-x oc completely fine even in demanding cpu games like crysis 3 or dragon age inquisition. Buy a better gpu like the gtx 970 and wait a few years before replacing the cpu, you should try to reach 4ghz if you want to drive a gtx 970 or r9 390 without issues.

4ghz will be no problem, but now have to sort out PSU...just to be slave

A new psu might be in order, but the gtx 970 is very efficient.
Here you can see where is your i5@4ghz compared to modern cpu, as you can see it's fine.
