Hi all,

I have been using my PC for the best part of a 6 months now. When I orginally put it together I think I put the CPU on wrong. I believe I posted about this back when I did it and some people on here said that it wouldnt really matter as long as the temps were ok. Well after 6 months of allmost daily usage there seems to be an enlarging cap in the difference in the core temps.

Core temp reports them as follows.

LOW HIGH
Core #0 - 25c 33c
Core #1 - 38c 46c
Core #2 - 33c 41c
Core #3 - 40c 50c

I am learning towards the fact the cooler is not sitting in the ideal position on the CPU and that is leading to this range of temps. I am just wondering if it is actually worth repositioning the cooler in the correct way or is this quite common since I would rather leave it and only move it if really needed.

Maybe I should add that they were closer to each other when I first got the PC and it was only over the last few days I noticed they seem to be getting a bit further apart. I actually got do with a bit of a spring clean inside the case as well so will trying an organise some time that I can do it when I havent got three screaming kids around me! thanks for the heads up guys.

It seems I am starting to have some trouble with the system. My Razor lycosa will just random power on and off like its being plugged in and unplugged but only when I`m gaming, this would lead me to believe that my power supply is perhaps not getting enough cooling to power the system now? I will attempt to clean it out tomorrow but is there any software that can message the power draw from the power supply?

I gave my PC a really good clean out today. There was quite a bit of dust under the CPU Cooler fan so I hoovered all that out and I also cleaned everything on my desk including my monitors. I also switched around some stuff into new usb ports and left out some stuff I dont need (USB Web cam) since I think it might actually be that causing the issue. I am still using my PC with the CPU cooler in the wrong place but overall my temps are down a little after the clean and when I can get some cleaner I will change it but atm its fine.

I dont believe my PC even has onboard gfx? I think that is only with certain motherboards? But i am using a 6950 atm and that is in the first slot so I suppose there could be a small issue of more heat on the lower position cores and i suppose this would also not be apparent if my CPU cooler was positioned correctly. I am tempted to get into the world of custom water cooling but i would want to wait a bit for that :)
