I think underclock is the right term... anyway I am trying to get my i5 to 4.6ghz stable and I thought I was getting there, until LinX returned an error after 16 runs. I thought it was weird, and i realised it was because the clock had dropped from 4.65ghz (99x47) to 3.3-3.5ghz (99x34-35).

I thought it had just returned to stock clock, however it hadn't because the multiplier actually jumped up to 36 and 37 at some points while browsing after that. I checked the BIOS and all the settings that should lower the clock have been disabled:

  • CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
  • C3/C6 State Support
  • CPU Thermal Monitor
  • CPU EIST Function

The only other settings i can see are Real-Time Ratio Changes in Bios, which is disabled too and Turbo Boost which is also disabled. Do these settings have something to do with it or am i missing some other random setting somewhere? (all these settings are under Advanced CPU Settings)

Want to have a stable 4.6ghz that doesn't underclock :mad::mad::mad:

Oh and the base clock was at 99.3mhz and my spec is:

Gigabyte Z68-UD4-B3
Core i5 2500K
Corsair H70 Cooler
Radeon 6950

Not that any of that should matter that much?

mine does this too. I have disabled everything that could make it underclock but it still does :(

However I don't see the problem with it, as it will clock back up to 4.7 immediately if there is a >5% load.

Also your volts seem a tad high... i wouldnt want to put more than 1.38V through it for 24/7

Well the plan is to get it stable at these volts and it not doing this strange underclocking thing then whack down the volts again, the max i would go to for this testing is 1.48, i wouldn't go any higher! its at 1.46v at the moment stress testing and just passed 20 iterations of LinX with no drop so couple more tests then maybe it will be sorted....

Temps never go above 70ºC when under full load!

Power option was set to balanced, but should that underclock it? I've now changed it but still having the issue.

I am still getting this error, i tried disabling speedstep yet I don't seem to have it on my board's BIOS, there was a setting saying "Dynamic Changes in OS" which I disabled (which was already disabled anyway)...

Getting annoying really -_-
