Hi,

I'm going to be getting a Core i7 920 and overeclocking it as fast as I can get with stability.

I'll use an ASUS Triton 88 cooler and an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 (when it finally arrives).

Which RAM would be the best to buy?

I was thinking of getting the Kingston HX 2000MHz stuff (6GB) but I'm still not sure if this will work.

AM I right in thinking that you can use any speed of RAM with the 920 as long as you don't exceed the 1.65v limit?

I'm fairly new to overclocking the x58 architecture so I don't really know what is involved in overclocking to use high speed memory and what the limitations are.

Thanks in advance.

I've heard that asus did a test and they did it up 1.7v but they said that it was the maximum you should go to, but id still go with 1.65v just to be sure

As you are cooling on air i think the Kingston HX 2000MHz would be overkill.

The Corsair 6GB DDR3 Dominator PC3-12800C8 1600MHz seem to be favourite.

I noticed you put V2 for your motherboard, daft question , are there two versions then ? if so do you know why, and is it the same for the rampage?
Thanks

the only difference between the 2 is that the v2 has no onboard SAS controller, so its more of a downgrade. But since when was an SAS controller ever useful anyway?

Thanks, done a bit of digging around and saw about the SAS controller also it has been said that the v1 wont run 24gig of ram but only 12gig where the v2 will , dont know how true that is though

For a whole variety of reasons, all the motherboard manufacturers test their boards with Corsair. You will always find Corsair on the qualified vendor list. If you're at all concerned about compatibility, buy Corsair.

All the reports I have read say there is no performance benefit to running fast RAM with these motherboards. One thing I have noticed is that you can get better timings from buying very high speed RAM and running it slower with much tighter timings.

I have some Patriot PC12800 CAS9 that runs PC10666 at CAS6 which is actually faster overall.
