Just bought the i7 920 overclocked bundle, came today and all is good. but windows only shows the processor as "Core i7 @ 2.6GhZ"

Not the 4 GhZ it should be overclocked too, is this just because windows cant see the overclock or bigger problem?

Thanks

google cpuid .. run that , itll tell you in the left hand corner what mhz you are running at.

also, if you wanna check in your bios it will tell you there too.

Looks Promising =/

Nothing wrong with it. Fire up a program to issue load.

Itll soon crank up to a 20multi.. maybe even a 21.

That means (20x the 199.9mhz) is 4ghz give or take.. 21x is the turbo mode however this may not take effect.

Speed step is a killer pain in the rear for system builders and it causes complaints right left and centre,

LOL, got ninja'd by a good 15mins in my lengthly tea break :P

Ya, exactly, speedstep has been part of the Intel range since LGA775. But yeah, its a nice way to have your CPU be more energy efficient.

But next time, do it yourself. Youll learn all these things and have the satisfaction of OC'ing. It can be quite a buzz.

Yeah i would love to have a go at OCing a system etc, but just terrified of making a tiny change and the whole thing blowing up. those processors arent cheap

That won't happen unless you go really silly with the voltages, worst you will get is windows will freeze or get a BSOD
