Hi all

Hope I am posting this in the right place.

I am speccing up a new PC with the basics being a Core i7 920, a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard and a Coolermaster Cosmos S case.

Having done some searching, I am now confused as to which CPU cooler I should get. I was looking at the Akasa Nero 967 at first but reading these forum, it looks like the Noctua is the better cooler but has trouble fitting in the case with some people taking the side fan off (will this affect the cooling?). Also reading about a revision to the case has confused me a bit as well.

So the question is: Which is the best Core i7 Cooler for the Cosmos S or should I look at changing cases?

Thank you in advance

I have that case. Before I went watercooled, I had to remove the the side fan in order to fit a freezer pro. Providing you have adequate 120mm fans at the font and rear, the side fan makes little difference connected or not.

I have the Noctua 1366 version and its an absolute beast. It barely fits in my Antec 1200. However a friend of mine managed to file off the corner of the offending fan to get both in with relative ease. The side fan generally helps with chipset temps so if you're going to be over volting and OC'ing then its probably worth keeping it if you can.

Otherwise, get the Noctua, it performs very well for everything that I have done so far (i7 920 @ 3.1GHz)

I won't be over clocking nor am I confident about filing bits off.

So a good way would be to get the Noctua, make sure I have enough front and rear fans and remove the side fan?

Cool. I will go with the Noctua, many case fans and removing the side fan.

Thank you for your help :)
