Anandtech posted an interesting article on the subject that confirms what some people have read on here.

Put simply, if you go crazy with VDimm, let’s say around 2.0V~2.2V without additional tuning, then expect to greatly reduce the processor lifespan to a few weeks or maybe days.

So sounds like you have to be careful with that expensive memory :)
 
Its a problem but not unexpected generally with voltages at this level of electronics - usually 10% is perfectly safe, 15% minor risk, 20% moderate risk and anything over that dramatically shortens lifespan - so I don't know why people act so suprised... granted its a bit of a hinderance with RAM performance.
