Not bad. What was the e6600 on release? Socket 1366 boards arent the mainstream boards though so may be expensive.

The names of the chips are Intel Core i7-920, i7-940, i7-965 from left to right. I wonder how QPI affects performance.

Interesting-reckon that will translate to £200, £450 and £750 or so

My bet would be £1k as the first price at OcUK for the top chip, probably more.

That $999 is wholesale... so that's what OcUK would buy in at.

X6800 went for £750-800 on launch so reckon £750 is about right for the Extreme Edition chip.

Only reason the QX9770 + QX9775 went for $1499/£1K is because they include exotic materials so the price was pushed sky high.

well the 2.66 ghz looks good and cheap hope it overclocks good but then.

motherboard + ram + cpu waterblock quite expensive so will wait at least till 2009 q1

I dont understand intels pricing, you go up to the next model & the price doubles ??
Its similar now with the Q9650 being £160 more than a Q9550 for a few hundred mhz

How long does it usually take for the first price-drops? I seem to rememeber the Q9450 and 9550 settled out a just over £200 and £300 respectively after a while, until the recent drops came in.

well Westmere 32nm comes 2009 q4 now im thinking will it be same socket as nehalem if not there is no point upgrading till westmere ?

Westmere will presumably just be a die shrink? 45nm c2 chips aren't so good that 65nm are pointless.

Theres gonna be 3 sockets, LGA1160 (budget), LGA1366 (mainstream) & LGA1567 (servers)
Westmere is 1366 but is supposed to be H1 2010 with quad DDR3 ;)

I'm more interested in the Beckton atm, 8 cores / 16 threads & 24mb of L3

depends if you can wait?

when people say things similar to that, i always assume, wait for westmere, then when it is released get normal 45nm nehalem. like getting a Q6600 just after the Q9XXX were released as prices fell and its not worth the extra in a lot of cases.

anyone chipping in i ll buy one need 999 more ? anyone :)

now that's a good thinking ^

Hate too say it those estimate prices do look about right once u factor in UK ripping off prices....
