Heya sorry for the being the x person to ask this but just wanted to make sure this spec was ok and your thoughts.

I'm mainly a gamer and probably would have no real use for all the power that this CPU has to offer, but if I was to upgrade (currently on a K7 chip ;)) then I'd want a quad core chip and a similar C2D would only be saving me a small amount.

Was thinking of a BFG GPU, but seems their bundle software is no more and a 10 year warranty is great but a 5 year one for £50-60 less is better imo - saying that, not really heard of Zotac, is their warranty good or should I just stick with what seems to be a very good company for warranties (BFG)?

Also just wondering if the RAM is good enough for a decent OC, read somewhere that there is little real world difference between 1333 and 1600 likewise with the lower latency. Is this correct or should I spend £50-£100 on some faster and less latent RAM?

Finally, the PSU.. I was looking at a 1000 W Corsair HX but not sure the 150W and modular warrants the extra £80 odd, but I do want to make sure that the rig is capable of say running SLI or a Crossfire system.

Sorry again, but cheers for any help =D

You could save a bit of money by going for the oem version of the CPU, since you've got a CPU cooler there and do plan on overclocking.

Also you can go for a cheaper motherboard, but will still offer what you need.

As for the memory it'll be fine and should see a decent overclock on the 920.

If you do plan on going SLi in the future the corsair 850 will be fine. If you really want modular I can recommend the Zalman 750W or the coolermaster 850W.

As 95thrifles as mentioned, what case is this all going in and what size of screen you plan on using?

Doh, thought I thought of everything ><

Screen - Sammy 24" (1920x1200)
Case - Akasa Eclipse 62

Typically, tempted to change the spec already to maybe an EVGA GPU, did see that it was only £20 extra for an extra 5 years on the warranty, are they quite easy to deal with when it comes to warranties?

If you can afford it Id look at a 285, its a really good system but a 260 at that res is about at the limits for todays games, still able to run everything on max and what have you, but new games may push it, a 285 would mean you dont need to upgrade for a while. as ro55o says you can trim a little on your CPU and mobo, use this towards a slightly higher end gfx card

Not trying to be rude or anything but will you use the GPU that long, I don't think so?
Also, the HD space isn't much?

All these people spending so much money on these i7 systems, oh oh oh... :D It's not that I'm jaelous but wouldn't a high end C2D be much more bang for buck, like ...they aren't that much slower are they ? :S

1.3Tb is small? how much "media" you got? lol

Oh lol, I thought he only had 320GB as well. I was going to say it's a bit small. On closer inspection it seems he's got another 1TB.

PSU is fine, although might as well get a modular. Like the others mentioned, with a system like that, I would be more inclined to go for a better GPU such as GTX285, GTX295(if you've got silly money) or a 4870X2

Erm HDD should be more than enough, currently have 100 gig HDD on this PC and it's feeling a little cramped, and a 250gb external for backing upto.

But in all honesty I don't download a heck of a lot of videos or music so would just be handy space.

I'd agree with you if I had anything that could be used ina C2D rig, but either system would need a new lump of everything, and costing it up I think I'd save maybe £100-200. Which some would say is a substantial saving (10%), but to me it doesn't warrant buying into an old socket even though it's slightly better value.

Zotac's warranty is 5 years, now I know I never keep a GPU for that length of time, hell I change at least every year :p For the money the zotac is a good buy and seem a pretty reputable company. I wouldn't bother with the GTX 285 (just an overclocked GTX 280), it's not worth the money over the 260, which can be overclocked to 280 speeds anyway.

The above is a littlle bit more than your first spec, but I've included the 4870 X2, which is definitely more suited to the spec.

The 700W PSU is more than enough for it, plus it has all the connections needed for the GPU (and it's modular aswell)

Thats what I'm wondering, and most of my old components of my rig go into secondary PC's so thats the only reason a 5-10 year warranty would be good.. if it goes pop in my secondary comp and somehow I manage to get a decent GPU for my main.

[EDIT]

Cheers for the spec ro55o, would an 850W PSU be enough to crossfire 2 4870 x2's in the not so distant future? Forgot to mention that the budget isn't set at £1200, but didn't want people increasing the spec to fit it into what I've alotted. So I'm tempted to stick to the original spec but maybe swap out the GPU for the 4870x2 like you suggested. I havn't upgraded for 4 years really, and don't want to be let down by the 260 running out of poke if in a few months time a game comes out and it can't cope.
