I just unlocked my Phenom II X2 555 to a quad core and its displaying the core speed as being 802.68 MHz is this right?? And memory should say dual channel but says single channel.

CPU-Z is showing the following:

CPU Arch : 1 CPU - 4 Cores - 4 Threads
CPU PSN : AMD Phenom II X4 B55 Processor
CPU EXT : MMX(+), 3DNow!(+), SSE (1, 2, 3, 4A), x86-64, AMD-V

cool and quiet, it's an AMD technology that basically downclocks your cpu so it runs cooler and quieter when your not really using it very much, as soon as any significant load is detected, the cpu clocks back up to normal 100% speed ;)

When the CPU is doing sod all such as browsing the internaet it save power by clocking down.

When you do something taxing such as play games/video encoding it ramps the speed up to its maximum.

While CPu-Z is open run a program in the background such as prime-95, the speed shown will jump right up.

oh ok but i just tried running prime95 and my system locked up.

I have noticed that even the slightest overclocking my pc will just lock up even if its unlocking the cores :-(

Then the cores are faulty and it was made into a dual core at the factory for a reason.

Core unlocking is not guaranteed.

Try enabling just one core to make a tri-core?

try upping the voltage to the cores, might be needed to make them stable, or they just might not be stable at any voltages

what voltage have you got going through the chip?

I thought it was because my motherboard is very new and just needs a bios update, yes there is a feature to disable cores but are you saying its freezing and locking up due to a bad core??

Its the ASUS M5A97 Pro and I just overclocked it to FAST and now my DDR3 ram is slower! :-( But i turned of cool and quiet from the bios and it shows this now:

CPU Arch : 1 CPU - 4 Cores - 4 Threads
CPU PSN : AMD Phenom II X4 B55 Processor

Well the RAm is at 1155.8mhz, there must be a feature in the Bios to set it manually to a set value (1066/1333/1600)? and keep it here.

There is an option to set the value but even before overclocking it if I set it to 1600mhz the pc either locks up or I get blue screens.

Also since the system is overclocked there is no option for 1600mhz or 1333mhz it has weird values now like 1476mhz.

Anyways I have had to turn off the 2 extra cores and put the speed back to normal as the system is unstable you never know when it might lock up :-(

I think it just needs a bios update whenever one comes out for stability.
