Core Temp & Speedfan giving different temps?

Just fitted my H50, but not overclocked yet. I've been running Prime95 large FFT for about 45mins, but Core Temp and Speedfan are giving me different readings as to my temps:

About 12-15C difference there, anyone clue me in?

Edit: Also, did I do the TIM wrong? I wasn't too happy with how the line method worked out, and it's possible the block is a little tight on the CPU, because the cooler backplate didn't go in as easy as I'd like.

Speedfan may be reading sensors situated beside each core by the heatspreader, were Core Temp will read the actual core hence the higher reading, I would trust Core Temp.

I personally use speedfan only to control my fans, and for overal system temsps (overall cpu temp, mobo temp, HD temp), and i use core/real temp for the cores.

But only use any temp program as a guide only, none of them are 100% correct, and are very likley to ever be, due to how the sensors work.

Taking that into consideration, and minding that the CPU itself is still running at stock, would I have cocked up on the TIM or the block being too tight? Should I wait a week or two for the TIM to spread and settle before beating myself to death?

What Tim did u use, as far as i know the only one these days that requires any curing time is AS5, all others are fine from the outset.

As i don't own or have ever used an I7 cpu, i can't really adivse you on the temps, but im sure someone else will let you know that info.

Aslo if only using 1 fan on the H50 the temps will be slightly higher then some on here as they use 2 fan setups mostly. Again best to wait for someone with more knowledge of that setup then me to post.

Sorry, shoulda mentioned some of that stuff. I'm using MX-3, got a stock case fan and the stock H50 fan in push/pull exhausting, 1x stock intake at the front and an apache intake on the side panel.

Ok mx3 dos'nt need any cure time, ideally u want 2 of the same make/models of fan for push/pull (same rpm/cfm/pressure) otherwise the pull fan will wear out faster.

About applying the tim, i allways just do the pea size drop in the middle and let the pressure of the cooler spread it out, allways seemed to work for me, but not sure how people do it for the I7's.

Might be best to post in the long H50 thread regarding your setup and core temps, as many seem to read that topic.

Im sorry i can't be of anymore help, im still on old C2D's lol. But im sure some nice I7 user will post at some point for u.
