Core temperatures (Q9550)

Got a question regarding core temperatures on my Q9550: I seem to have quite a large difference between core temps at idle - 39, 41, 49, 44 - is this normal?

The above temps were on the stock cooler before I OC'd.

I've since replaced the cooler and clocked to 3.4ghz, and the idele temps are still the same?
 
Yeh, those temps seem fine, I run a q9550 myself, iv got a small inbuilt water cooling fan combo and mine range from 29 to 36 sometimes
 
I'm not worried about the temps, but though that 10*c difference between the cores was odd. I did expect to see a lower idle temperature when I replaced the cooler, but they remained the same.

Under load they never go over 62*c so I guess its OK...
 
Mine was the same, just use the highest temp as your guideline and you cant go wrong.
My cpus temps used to get closer under stress.
 
Don't worry about Idle temps on the Q9xxx series, they suffer from stuck core sensors (Each core on these processors has a digital thermal sensor (DTS) ) at low temps and will only go down to a certain point (every CPU is different), check your load temps and i'm sure you will find they are more even and lower then what your last cooler produced.

The biggest problem is that the sensors used on the 45nm Core 2 Dual and Quad core processors can become saturated or can become stuck at lower temperatures. As your core temperature decreases, they might reach a temperature where they continue to report the exact same temperature even though your CPU continues to cool down. With a stuck sensor, there is nothing you can do about it and it prevents you from doing an accurate calibration of your temperature sensors.

Is this fixed on newer sandy bridge processors? I'm looking at upgrading next year & this is one thing that really annoyed me, with it being my first quad core - though i would overheat when i read them as idle temps :mad:

On topic, I get this also. My room is freezing atm and it is reporting similar temps.
