Hi All,
I have a Dell XPS 720 H2C and upgraded my processor from a QX6700 where all core temps were within 3,4 c of each other.
I now seem to be getting cores 0,1 ~10c hotter than cores 2,3?
I have tryed to reseat the CPU and each time re applyed the thermal paste, and also refitting the H2C unit. My question is do you think the processor needs lapping down?

Thanks for the reply,
The core temps at idle according to OCCT are cores 0,1 ~42c and 3,4 ~31c
Just seems to big a jump for idle temps?

And this is with no OC and with C1E turned on!

I have the same on one of the QX9650 CPU's I have - core 0 and 1 idle at 50 degrees while core 2 and 3 idle at 37 degrees. I think it must just be a faulty sensor on this CPU:confused:. The other QX9650 I have is fine all 4 cores are idle about 40-43 even overclocked at 4.2mhz:D.

Of course it could be down to a poor unflat surface on the cpu.

One of the benefits of lapping seems to iron out the differences between core temps.

Well i went ahead and Lapped my processor, i have now halved the differance between cores 0,1 - 2,3.
So now getting a differance of ~5c at a clock speed of 3.66GHz
Idel temps of ~33c
Load temps of ~47c

And im now a lot happier :D
