okay, iv been running my amd 4400x2 at 2.84 for about 6 weeks, and i decided to push it further, and it reached 3.1ghz for about 3 days,

and then,... it just stopped working. wouldnt boot up, wouldnt do anything.

the OS was still being detected tho cause when i plugged power in it didnt automaticly switch its self on.

allso at 3.1ghz i noticed one core was 6c hotter than other on full load orthos for 24 hours and it was fine and stable.

and now i had to clear cmos, and now it wont even clock to 2.4ghz and boot up. it just wont have it,

any helps please? :( thanks

my temps are, and allways have been below 27c,

the computer room im in is supprisingly cold, we have a window open in this room 24/7 so it stays below 5c in the room.

my cpu temp when overclocked was idle at 25-27c, full load at 45 and other core at 55 nearly.

and on stock speeds idle is 22-24 and full load at 43 both cores

and the voltage, was at 1.6v

iirc two opterons have died at 1.6, its rare but i don't think its impossible. May have been 1.65, i can't remember. Think it was on xs.

If you can get into the bios etc its not dead, but perhaps damaged. Its equally possible that something else could be damaged, check the board particularly around the voltage regulator area for scorch marks or fets that have de-soldered themselves and are lying at an angle.

I suppose they only thing you can do is swap it out for another cpu.
If you are going to do that, don't go in with the assumption that its the cpu, it could be the board, memory or psu perhaps. You just have to swap components around until you find the problem, or pay a shop to do it for you.

i think ill just wait till i get my new E6600 and asus p5w dh dulux wifi and gskill. and sell this system on at stock speeds, it works fine at stock :)

It works on stock, at stock volts? Then surely that means the cpu is fine. Does it pass prime at stock?

So it all works fine at stock, stress tests and everything?
If so then i'm not sure if it could be the cpu, as i thought either it would be physically damaged meaning it won't pass a stress test, or it will do what older overclocked cpus do and require above stock volts to operate at stock speeds. You say it doesn't do either of those things?

it will run at stock, without anything touched in bios and everything on automatic,

but if i try and overclock it, it just doesnt take it.

i can put everything on manual, but even then it wont work at higher of anything speed :(

ok now, new plan of attack, for some reason its working at 2.4ghz but wont go over that.

its at 1.5 (from 1.35stock)

it wouldnt take 2.4ghz at anthing under 1.5

btw, iv just noticed iv been overclocking with cpu spread spectrum, Enabled.

should i disable it?

i disabled it and overclocked to 2.4ghz and it failed at 4 seconds on one core, but that could have been because i opened coretemp program after i started test.

i restarted test and at the moment its at 2 minutes 27 seconds and no errors yet.

gah this is one hell of a weird core

  allso i have no idea if this has anything to do with it but internet explorer just randomly windows error reported twice and closed down when trying to scroll down the page lol :S
