Core Usage in applications and games

Something thats always bugged me.. I have a Q6600, though when I use some single-core applications, it always seems to be the same core that particular applications uses, for example Fifa 08 will only ever use Core3, regardless of whatever else is running, Red Alert 3 Beta will only ever use Core4, again regardless of whatever else is running.

Is this normal? Just seems odd for it to use the same core.. does the program tell your CPU to use the same core everytime? Nothing serious just always bugged me

I dont know if I have any single core apps that use core 1 or 2, but I could try later o.o

I am probably wrong but here it goes.

It could be that the devs realize when people have quad core first 2 cores are automatically loaded by the OS to do stuff often leaving core 3 and core 4 hanging and probably manually assigns their games to run on a specific core. FIFA08 probably assumes this and RA3 is a notch smarter and uses core 4
