rendering modes not supported? max driver quality settings, everything on highest settings in game, it looks ****.
Am i missing something here? it looks awful.
Latest NV drivers btw.

I got this when i was playing the other day. Same as you, max quality everything and rendering modes not supported. Not sure why but it looked worse than i remembered it to be

BTW i don't have an 8800gts or core2duo, only got a puny A64 3500 and X1800xt :D

got it all patched up? i cant think what else it would be. everything's supported with my 8800gtx and it looks pretty tasty, especially for an older game

I'm currently playing through FarCry myself, max settings and all the rendering modes are available for me. Running a A64 3200+ and 7900GS 512MB.

Mine's all up to the latest everything. I was having problems with drivers giving me artifacts so managed to get the drivers working and then the rendering modes weren't supported.

Ah just remembered that the last time i played it i had installed the 64bit texture pack, that might be why i think it looks crap now :o It still doesn't explain the rendering mode problem.

CuZ, where are you? :p

got exactly the same problem, looks like it does on low settings, cant see mercs more than 30 metres etc, got aGTS and it just dosent work properly.

Farcry unpatched is completely incompatible with graphics cards beyond the 9800/5900 range. You will need to patch to version 1.3 and above to play the game at proper graphical settings. Any less, graphical glitching and problems will be prevalent, as the game does not know how to work with newer video cards.

It is guaranteed that your problems will be eliminated once patched up.

I just can't believe that people keep installing games without patching them, especially ones as old as this.

Regarding the rendering modes thing, I remember them being unavailable for me sometimes (this was on a 9800pro or 6800), I was never able to quite put my finger on what was causing them to be greyed out.

Mine was running absolutly fine on an X1950 pro before patching; just couldn't select "Paradise" on the render thing...

New York  :p

Yeah, as the guys have mentioned, you need the patches for this generation GPU, even then its not officially supported, but should work if you get sympathetic drivers.

If you are playing single player, I wouldnt use the cumulative 1.4 as it has a bug that makes some buildings see through for the AI.
I would just use patches 1.3, 1.31 and 1.33.
You can always get 1.4 stand alone after you complete the campaign when if you play multiplayer, 1.4 plus eXcaliTrone is the way to go...

For the advance rednering modes, I think that they are restricted by what you have the other graphici settings set to. eg they may need SM3.0 which means most set to Very High. With my laptop for instance, i cant run at anything above medium, and as such dont get offered any of the custom modes...

Hope that helps...

yea it was single player, patched now :) still doesnt look that impressive to be honest! quite disappointed really!!!

I'm running FarCry on a 8800GTX and unpatched it looks horrid.. simple as... once patched to 1.4 it looks very nice.. the only gripe i have is that even though Vsync is enabled i still get tearing ingame. This is with max on everything. its not a big issue but it does kill the "magic" a little.
