hi all, im after a good HSF for a socket 775 setup which will be oc'ed

i dont want a MASSIve chunk of metal sticking out of the mobo if i can avoid it.

i have an AC7 on my 939 rig and the orientation is all wrong and upsets me daily.

is there anything, i remember the thermaltake 120's or something from a while ago? anything else i should be looking at (P5NE/Abit 650i board)

I think you will find that the better coolers are on the larger size (more surface area = greater heat dissipation). The ACF7 is a reasonable cooler and is worth trying on your new rig before spending another £30+ on a new cooler. The Tuniq tower seems to be the performance cooler but the fan is noisy when on max (can be turned down though). The scythe ninja is a good cooler, quiet and probably matches the Tuniq when the tuniqs fan is reduced to about the same speeds as the Ninja (1200rpm).

Scythe Ninja

Solid mount
Least dense fins (of the top 5 or so) = least air resistance, so quiet
Great cooling

The mounting system on the Tuniq is better (screws) but needs the mobo to be removed so a backplate can be fitted. The push pins on the Ninja are easy but I am not entirely convinced by them. Plus the fixing bracket on the Ninja may need slight modding to fit properly due to thye location of 2 capacitors.

cool, platypus ill check tonight

Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 CPU Cooler (Socket 775
