On my brother's pc, he is currently using a e6300 and it's struggling with the games he want's to play. He's using an oem pc and the motherboard is some obscure ECS board. Will he be able to put in a Q6600 or something like a Q8300? He won't be overclocking any of these as he doesn't have the ability to set fsb:dram ratio in bios but only the ability to change fsb so I would expect 300mhz at the most.

Run CPU-Z on the computer and see if you can get the exact make and model of the motherboard then we can hopefully check it out and see what it can take.

From the looks of things I would hazard a guess at saying no it does not support Core 2 Quad but I can not say for certain one way or the other. If you were thinking of buying the CPU brand new then I would save the money and add more to it and build a better machine. I can not find any list anywhere which states clearly what it will support which is most annoying :(

Apparentely the 945P-M3 board is the same as the 945G-M3 Ponly the 945P-M3 has things missing such as vga.

945G-M3 does not have Core2Duo listed on it anywhere at all the fact that the P version runs a C2D is bonus but like I said I doubt it will run a C2Q.

My brother had a clone hp model with a stock board, came with a Q6600, i managed to upgrade it to a Q8400 :o also just get a cheap G31 board and a new chip if his current board won't support one, theres a nice gigabyte one, G31 ESL or something like that, bout £30 :O
