** Im using 6015 for this one, as 6020 isn't in the calculator, could be way wrong.

That's the only two i've gotten thus far, since loading up the VM-UB.

Brilliant i thought i might try the win client to see the performance difference and it's brilliant once i start getting bonuses i'll be pulling 30k PPD :D

Long live CPU crunching powahhh :) might tempt some of the guy's back to fold with their farms
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, nor deter anyone from firing up an A3 box, however, if the GPU Clinet / Core combunaiton remain as they are and the GPU's can chew though the WU's like cotten candy, I wont be seeing any high end i7 rigs any time soon.

Did a little math this evening, and for the same $$$ that it would cost for a high end CPU / MB / RAM / PSU (probably a half descent case also) set up = roughly 1500 to 2000 bucks, I could build at least 2x if not 3x the PPD for less duckies using GPU cards.

Don't get me wrong, I like the High End CPU business for sure, but the PPD, even with the bonus PPD is not going to beat 8 to 10 GPU cards, just aint gonna happen, unless the model changes on one or the other.

But I am going to bring back 2 more of my Q6600's that were side-lined when the SMP PPD was just not worth the pain.

You i7 guys are defiantely getting some good benchie's from those rigs though.

With i7, bigadv is the way to go. On my 920 rig clocked at 3.8GHz, I'm getting about 26,000 a day with bigadv. I would hazard a guess that my points per watt will be way lower than a rig scoring comparable ppd on GPUs. Points per pound, I'm not sure about - would need to look into that.
Re: costs, I was referring to purchase costs, not specifically sustaining costs.

Looking at the OcUK Store, 9800GT 66.00 quid, i7-975 3.3Ghz D0 .. 780.00 not to mention the stupid amount of RAM required and a heafty tag for descent MB as well.

I don't need to work this through again, there's no question, if you have one box, i7 is the way to go. If you have the money in hand, and want the most PPD for the same $$ .. well .. I guess each has to choose what they want, but I know where mine would go at the moment.

Oh, yeah, Almost forgot, Iv'e also got 2x 9800GT's running on this box as well.

The GPU's are taking a bit of a hit with the SMP client going, but I'm ok with a total of:

SMP: =>9K
GPU-1 => 3.5K
GPU2 => 3.5K
Total: => 17K PPD for a Non-i7 System.
.

[EDIT]

If things remains stable over the the next day or so on my A9850 adn Q6600 File servers, I may slap an SMP client on those two as well but dont want to over load my Primary Media File Server, the A9850 will likely get one soon.
