Nice play to go on holiday? My girlfriend is bugging me to book our holiday this weekend to take advantage of some deal at thomson. She started working there 6 months ago, so when she see's all these different destinations people go to, the trusty majorca is out of the question.

She says she fancies Corfu, what can I expect if we go ahead and book?

My wants for a holiday are just basically a busy-ish area so that there's plenty to do (not particulary nightclubs - just general entertainment). The rest is just associated with the particular hotel so brochures can tell me what I need to know I suppose.

How long is the flight? Is it generally hotter than Spain (will be going in july/august). I suck @ heat and turn pink and the sight of sun, so it'll suck if its really hot :(

all i can really tell you without finding out more info from the rents is its very very hot !

45 degrees in the shade the last time we where there :O ( was a record year or something mind but other times we went when i was younger it was also very hot)

literally couldn't do anything but stay in the pool :p

it was a really nice place though

When i was younger, well, about 5 years ago (will have been 13) we went and it was 50 degrees in the shade never mind 45.

Lovely place, nice beach's and weather is fantastic if you like been cooked slowly :D

Like the guy up there ^^^ i stayed in the pool, i ended up looking about 50 when i came out lol, i had nice brown back from swimming though :o

Wear your MU shirt and it will look like its a long sleaved job ;)

It will match with your bright red heed :D

hehe ^^

But to be honest any of the greek islands are fantastic, ive been to quite a few of them and they are all brilliant!

The first two weeks of August see daytime temperatures mid 30's to 40 - with high humidity

The first two weeks of June see Corfu at its best. Beaches and Tavernas filling up but not crowded. Beautiful warm days with temperatures reaching mid 20's - not too hot. Warm evenings enabling a good night's sleep

good little site about corfu this like http://www.agni.gr/

Lovely island mate, very green. Watch out for the mossies though - although I doubt you'd have to worry about them too much in August. It's still very hot in September so it wouldn't be noticeable between early and late August.

Cheers!

More likely that it'll be cooler late august compared to early august right?
ohh i just got a flash back. I think it was corfu where we went to a water park and the floor was made of a black metally/plastic material.

Well it was funny watching people bouncing around trying not to touch the floor, hopping from sunbed to sunbed...but wasn't funny when you needed to cool down but didnt dare :(

We went about 4 years ago as a group of friends to Sidari in Corfu.

We stayed at a little hotel called Janetos or possibly Zanetos, however I couldnt ever explain what a lovely hotel it was. It was run by an old couple who were so friendly when my friend went to ask if his wallet had been found in the bar he seemed to have lost it, they simply handed him E100 and said to use that until he found his wallet or claimed for the travellers cheques.

He found his wallet about an hour later though so he could hand the money back straight away, but I though this gesture was amazing, by the end of our week their they were treating us all like their sons, letting us help ourselves behind the bar etc.

Sidari itself was perfect if you wanted clubbing action or perfect if your just someone who like a drink outside in the warm, watching the world go by. All the clubs have large comfy chairs outside the front doors, which have to be shut to keep the club music off the street, you can still hear it, but more like a quiet background noise.

So you cvan sit out and chill and enjoy your drink or go inside and dance you arse off.

Only thing is it is only a small place with one main shopping street, however if your brave enough to hire a scooter like we all did, then Corfu town is about an hours ride away as is one of the best water parks I have ever been to.

/me goes to apply for that job on Wish You Were Here?

Wrong, my partner describes it as his holiday from hell. We fell asleep on the beach for approximately 1 hour after the flight, we woke up, went to our hotel and his leg had doubled in size. I think it had cooked from the inside out! It stayed like this until after we returned home. The only relief he had was from sitting on the edge of the pool with his legs dangling in the water.
The weather at the end of August beginning of September is still gas mark 8.
Incidently, our flight was delayed on the way home. We spent three hours at Corfu airport fighting for one of the 4 seats available (a slight exaggeration, there may have been 5) Duty free heaven it certainly isn`t.
To be fair this was 3 years ago, it may have improved since.

how does that make it a holiday from hell, something happened to his leg, not directly involved with the place itself.

Anywho, I'm from Corfu (well the dad is) - make sure you take your time to visit the villages up in the mountains, and go to "patrokatora" which is the highest point in Corfu. And on your way up there, say hello to my nan for my in Zygos ;)

oh yeah i forgot to mention corfu airport lol

its tiny, not many seats etc always packed full of angry touriss trying to go home :p

doesnt it have on of the shortest runways that big planes can use too ?

its certainly feels risky when you take off near vertical :p

I never said it was Corfu`s fault! I am well aware of the cause of his injury, lack of sunscreen in extremely hot sun.
Actually, I loved it there, i think he would have too if he wasn`t in so much pain.

Zanetos - I stayed in the BB next to it. Me and my dad went out, my dad did some DJ'ing there. Cheap and cheerfull!

Great sea, good bars/clubs, like he said above, theres a lot of little shops along one big road and a supermarket.

Your hotel was on the beach right? And did you go to the baze bar? :D

45 :o

I'd probably die a long, slow death

I don't see what the problem is, it's ***ing cold and wet here, wouldn't you rather just be a tad hot? Just imagine that the troops are fighting at 60ish degrees temperature!

I suffer from prickly heat and burn really easily. I don't mind being hot at all, but I burn so easily since i'm quite pale skinned. My girlfriend is the opposite and she could stand 4ft away from the sun and not burn :p
