Hi guys,
I took delivery of a new 'Ultima Vanquish' PC on Friday.
I took a look inside the case to make sure that nothing had become damaged while in transit and noticed something odd about the cooler.
The Noctua NH-U12P seems to be leaning to a bit of an angle: probably about 20degrees. I.e. one of the fans is pointing down slightly towards the motherboard and the other is pointing up towards the side of the case( when the base is lying flat ). The fans are still attached to the heatsink with the pins, so in other words, the whole unit is tilted a bit and is not parallel to the motherboard.
However, the unit does not seem to wobble and seems to be in place fairly well.
I was a bit worried that perhaps the heatsink was not making proper contact with the processor area and I couldn't get a clear view to take a look.
I've booted the system up and the i7 920 D0 is idling at between 38c and 40c, which seems ok to me?
I'm just wondering if anyone thinks it's worth taking the Noctua off and reinstalling it?
I'm a bit hesitant to do this because I'm not overly competent at these things - I've done it once or twice before, but not with anything as meaty as the Noctua NH-U12P.
Obviously, my main concern is that the i7 will be damaged if it isn't being cooled correctly, so I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Here's a pic for reference:
Thanks,
Steve
