Hi, im getting my new HDD tomorrow.
To confirm i have the right driver "Promise SATA378 Driver V1.00.0.26 for Windows 98SE/NT4.0/ME/2000/XP/2003"

My mobo is A8V deluxe and has the latest bios on it.

So just to run things through.
I open up package of new HDD. i insert it into disk bay and connect it up.
all other HDD will be diconnected
I make sure the bios loads the CD drive first.
Insert winxp CD
when asked to install third party drivers or what ever (F6) i then insert the floppy disk with that driver in. and the rest is history?

Yep, but be aware that mb has two different hard drive controllers on it. So make sure you plug into the promise one.

ahh crap, how do i find that out? :P
also, im a gamer and im looking for peek performance, i have an amdopteron185, x1950proAGP 2gb ram. would you recommend ultimate or xp pro? i have heard many diffrent opinions on this and could always do with some more? :P

you can find out what sata ports belong to which controller in the mobo manual.

also, you shouldn't need to install the sata driver during the F6 stage unless you are using a raid array (which by the sounds it, you aren't).

ah ok, thanks.

I've never had to install drivers for a single sata hd before at the F6 stage on any of my mobos, so I thought that was only for the early sata ones. :)
