Morning all, My wireless connection last night was rubbish while playing Fifa on the XBOX One even though its got a static IP address and sometimes wireless is the only connection I've got and most of the time it works but other times I can use wired so last night I was able to play one game wired and it was perfect.

I thought id log in to the Router and make sure both Wired and Wireless IP addresses were forwarded but ......... (this is the problem)

I've already got the wireless IP Address forwarded for the correct ports but when I try and forward the same ports for the wired connection it doesn't work it says its already forwarded but that's only for the wireless IP address

Am I thinking about this the wrong way? Should I forward the ports then set the wireless and wired IP address as the same on the XBOX?

p.s. I know this isn't an XBOX site but its the only gaming site in registered to and for some reason cant post on Virgin Media

thanks well this still hasn't fixed the issue I've changed both wireless and wired to the same IP address and it works but the NAT type is still strict not open its doing my head in!

I'm going to restore the route tomorrow and then restart the Xbox connection from scratch then forward the ports and see where I go from there thanks again

Does your router have UPnP as an option? If it does then remove all port forwards for your XBOX, activate UPnP and live your life worry free.

I've tried this as well as having the static IP and ports forwarded and still no luck

as above

Use DMZ? Demilitarized Zone. Solved all my problems! Will not very safe in practice to use on a network, its safe enough for your Xbox.

Tried this as well..... Didn't understand what it was doing but I enabled it and it didn't work

Any how this morning I've reset the router to Default so ill start again with just a wired connection and hope for the best

You can't forward the same ports twice but you can get around the issue.

I do this on my PS4. When you are changing the connection type and setting up the connection choose a manual set up on the console and manually select the IP address (ie you're not using static ip on the router, you manually choose the IP on the console). On your router you port forward to 192.168.0.50 but you don't set a static address for your console. Now you're free to change your connection to wireless to wired as much as you like and you spend 60seconds doing the configuration on your console. Far easier.

If it doesn't make sense ask me what you want me to clarify because I'm crap at explaining stuff.

Thanks ..... I'm hopeful that's its sorted now just by restoring defaults on the router and setting a new ip address on the Xbox
I've then forwarded the ports and restarted the Xbox a few times played on line and its stayed open so fingers crossed that's the end of the issue
