After sound advice from members on here I purchased a Dell XPS 17 (L702x), and am loving it.

I am looking at dropping in an extra 8GB of memory, to bring it up to 16.

I wonder those that have done this what did you use?

Have seen this and it looks ok http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-154-CR&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1264 but am unsure on the voltage is 1.5v ok? as have had suggested also 1.35v.

Would I see any differnces from 10600 to 12800 memory?

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give.

You will find a load of in formation on the XPS 17 here :D Dell XPS 17 (L702X) Thread.

The only difference you would see would be a higher WEI score or if you are into benchmarking. Oh and ofc price :D

RL differences would be seen when you are rendering large HD videos or using Photoshop to edit large raw images.

You may want to match the memory modules as you upgrade to stop any compatibility issues.

Running 2 sticks of Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 8GB (2x4GB) gives a Subscore of 7.9 in my Asus N55SF

Processor: 7.5
Memory(RAM): 7.9
Graphics: 6.9
Gaming Graphics: 6.9
Primary hard disk: 7.9

In the greater scheme of things these numbers are pretty meaningless in RL terms.

As both my Asus N55SF and M11x only have 2 slots l needed to use the Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 16GB (2x8GB) memory kit, it works in both, however as my m11x is fixed at 1333 it does not get the "benefit" of having faster ram, but to be fair it is a sub notebook so speed is not everything.

Regards.

Quick question, do you know how many ram slots your motherboard has?

As I have been looking around and there seems to some discrepancy on amount of ram slots there are.

I used two of those Crucial memory kits for 16GB in my L702x before I upgraded it to 32GB.

Only the 3D version of the L702x motherboard has 4 memory slots. The other configurations have only 2 memory slots.

In case your L702x has only 2 memory slots you should be able to find a kit of 2 x 8GB DDR3 SODIMM at a reasonable price if you look around. I had two kits for 32GB and it worked fine and I think it was around £75 for each 16GB kit at the time but it's lower now.

Thanks guys this is really helpful. Looks like I will go for the 12800 memory as I tend to do a fair bit of panoramas and and HDR which can drag things down (and the extra cost does not seem to bad).

I had ran previously ran Crucial memory scan which had showed 4 slots, and had had the back off and a quick look and things seemed right.

But after the comments here, I took the back off again, and sure enough there is infact 2 slots. The ones underneath are dumbies, with a thicker post than the memory notch is. So an expensive mistake avoided. :)
