Just overclocked my i5-2500k using this guide but concerned about the results.

Everest shows a 27% overclock but CPU-Z keeps changing from 1600 to 2400Mhz.
Also CPU FSB is only 100Mhz but should be 133Mhz?

Your volts are a bit high for only 4.2ghz. I would try lowering them a bit (try between 1.3 and 1.35 for starters)

Your speed keeps going back to 1.6ghz due to intels speedstep technology (lowers speed till you need it and then puts it to full)

Thanks for the quick reply. I only went by the guide so I assumed that was ok. I'll try lowering them a bit. Am I able to push this further for a better overclock or should I leave it at 4.2Ghz?

That must be a bug in everest, SB base clocks are intended to stay at 100, all over the overclocking is done by the multiplier.

I would say the very least you should expect from your chip is about 4.6ghz, though most are over the moon with 4.5ghz.

What about when you're stressing it? Try IBT or Lynx and run it through 15-20 loops with full RAM.

I had no idea what IBT or Lynx was so I googled them and installed Lynx and ran it without any errors.
I also ran HWMonitor alongside it and temps never went above 70C.

Here is a screen shot if it means anything to you..I have no idea what it did.
