Correct RAM Set up - Query

Hi all,

So due to a change in what I'm needing from the machine, I intend to upgrade my RAM.
I'm ideally looking for 32GB DDR4, however depending on price break points and how much more expensive it works out to be, I would potentially settle for 16GB.

My query is, can I purchase 2x 16GB (if so, which?) and input them along side my current 2x 4GB, or will this potentially stress/damage the machine?

If so, would I be better off 2x 4GB 2x 8GB?

Looking for what recommendations of set up to use, and also which RAM is most appropriate (and would deliver the best performance).

All help is appreciated.

you have a x299 system, so should be looking at quad channel memory
so for 32gb ram, ideally 4x8gb sticks
however, going up in memory size may (albeit a very low chance) cause your paid-for overclock to become unstable

if you do decide to upgrade the memory...i recommend getting the crucial ballistix LT 3200c16 4x8gb kit (product code: BLS4K8G4D32AESBK) not sold at ocuk, but you can google the product code

So if for example, I was to install 64 GB (4x 16GB) of the Crucial Ballistix LT (BLS4K16G4D32AESB) there is a fair probability I would need to either remove or reconfigure the OC settings to prevent damage?

there won't be physical damage per se

usually it's either (A) the system won't boot, or (B) the system will be unstable (ie random crashes)
(or (C) totally fine - which is the most likely outcome)
