Hey Guys,

I would like to transfer some big files between my netbook and pc. I understand there may be a USB cable (male to male) that can be used for this purpose?

My questions:

1) Can anyone direct me to the correct cable for the task?

2) Would the data transfer speed across the cable be poorer than using an external hard drive as the middle man?

3) Would it be the case of dragging and dropping files across?

Just plug it into your network, set-up a shared folder and transfer into that; it'll be far easier. If your router is only 100mbps but both your laptop and PC are 1gbps then you can put the cable between them directly (though you'll need to set-up a static IP at both ends).

What you actually want is one of these.

Unless of course you do have a router. Then simply set up file sharing as Pho described intitially.

If your network cards are not auto-sensing this will be required.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm wondering how to setup file sharing using the the CAT5E ethernet cable. I plug it in and nothing happens?

You'll need to give each pc a static IP address first. :)

Best way to tackle this is follow one set of instructions.

First things first, do you have a router? (a modem for your broadband which has multiple ethernet ports on, and possibly wireless capability)

^Your answer to this question depends on what you should do next.
