corrosion or gunk

Looks like the coolant has started to 'fall out' which is the particles in the coolant getting stuck between the plexi and the block.
Wont harm the loop but it will eventually need complete flush and clean of all the blocks.

Have you got plexi blocks? Can you see the micro fins at all?

Not sure that is the coolant separating or not
Didn't the maximus z690 formula have a major issue
With corrosion ?
May be worth a Google to see if any z590 owners
Have reported anything similar to what happened
To z690

Luck of the draw I’m afraid where ‘show’ coolants like mystic fog are concerned. Take a quick look through Reddit and you’ll see plenty of similar examples.
Personally, those ‘show’ coolants are not something I’d use on regular basis because while you might be lucky and they ‘hold’ together, it seems they are quite partial to separation.

What's the little black lines near the top?
Part of the heatsink?
Trick of the light or something?

Whatever the issue is
Be a bit of a PITA as it's full cover
Though does look like can remove it
In separate pieces

Gpu block?
If you have is it the same?

Hi all

Thanks for all the replies.

1. I do have pexi within the loop.
a. Phanteks Distro plate
b. EKWB res/pump combo

Yup did see the issues with the Z690, really bad corrosion, hopefully mine hasn't started corroding and I can get a few more years out of the motherboard. One option maybe to remove the motherboard waterblock altogether and see if I can buy spare parts for the normal version of that motherboard? Buy a new CPU cooler etc.

I'm due to rebuild the loop with new kit, better Distro plate (Stealkey, goes well with the new case NV9) and new rads. If I can't go down the route of replacing the motherboard waterblock, which flashing liquid would you guys recommend and which coolant should I go for?

Thanks

I’d not recommend any of the show type liquids (ie liquids with ‘stuff’ suspended in them to create the fog/flashy effect) Despite what the marketing guff might say, these are only for short term use. Stick with a single colour coolant - mayhems are well regarded and tend to be my go to.

I don't use flushing fluid
Would take them apart and clean them
But mayhem blitz seems to be the one people
Use most

Edit
Any coolant that isn't just clear
Risks clogging micro fins
My blood red coolant is now more of a purple colour
Really needs dismantled and clean all the microfins
But my health isn't up to it nowadays
That wasn't even a pastel coolant
I would probably just use clear nowadays
And get my colour from the leds instead

Thanks, I'll go for mayhem blitz first, if that doesn't move the gunk I'll then go for "take apart/clean". If I'm lucky with the blitz, I'll buy mayhems with a single colour.

I'll keep the post updated for others to use as reference .

Yeah will be interested to see
What blitz does for you
Taking my cpu block off and cleaning microfins
I can still manage
But gpu has a block and an active backplate
Really don't fancy taking that apart
So if blitz clears yours maybe I will try that
Then just put clear coolant in
Can't even lift the pc nowadays so will be an in situ job
The joys of custom watercooling and old age and bad health lol

As others have said, it looks like the coolant separating to me. Those showy ones aren't designed to last for the long term, how long have you had it in the loop?
It's been in the loop for too long and that's my fault. On the instructions for the coolant it states that the system needs to be cleaned every 6 months. It's been in the loop for more than 3 years.

That must be one tough job to clean the CPU block. My first open loop was using soft tubing and I went mad on rads, its really heavy.

Current build I have is hard tubing (first attempt) and the GPU is like yours (waterblock and active backplate), agree I wouldn't want to take the GPU cooler apart neither.

I'd second the point against cleaning fluids. It's more time consuming but you'd be better served taking the block apart and using a very minor abrasive (something like toothpaste is always a classic choice) along with an old toothbrush or similar to clear everything out of the fins. If the chrome coating is flaking off or there's gunk that gets dislodged then you're going to have trouble with whatever you're using to pump it through.

I've read on Reddit some users try to take apart that motherboard waterblock and end up breaking the block due to EKWB using glue (this will be my last purchase from EKWB). Others have used the EKWB cryofuel loop cleaner and super flush and got good results. The coolant is cryofuel mystic fog thought would make sense to use EKWB cryofuel loop cleaner and super flush. The loop is all EKWB parts except the Distro plate which is phanteks.
