I have a PC on a Domain which lost its trust relationship with the Domain, got it back on the Domain but now the user when she logs on has shortcuts on her desktop which now don't have a valid path for example Outlook if you follow the short cut to the location the folder is empty and exe is missing . As I mentioned this is the same for a few programs where the exe is missing or if you do launch the program it takes you to the main start page as if you were a brand new user .

If however she logs on to another PC her profile is fine (not roaming- folder redirection)So question is what steps do I need to take to fix the corrupt profile on her usual PC I am aware its not a simple as the XP way of doing things

Thanks

.

Rename her user profile under 'C:\Users' to username.bak with an admin account then log in as her.

Should build a new profile, then you can copy over shortcuts/files where needed from the .bak profile.

Hold on a tick, you'll have problems if you rename Windows 7 profiles like you would do in Windows XP. If I was you, I would backup anything needed from the desktop, then go into system and delete the profile the correct way.

So what is the exact correct way? do I need to copy her profile to a stick or network folder then go In and rename it to .old or something then do I taker her out of the accounts under My Comp- properties -advanced - profiles ?

Do I need to remove the profile registry in Windows NT under Current Machine?

Could someone provide me with a step by step guide as never done this before and its a Head Office client.

Thanks

We've had an issue when renaming W7 accounts.

Say you've got Jane Doe, (username janedoe).

If she gets married and we rename her to Jane Bloggs (janebloggs), then any pc she's used in the past will need the following things done to it before her profile will work.

Delete
C:\Users\janedoe

Go to regedit.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\SXXXXX-YYYYY-111-222
(the one that lists janedoe in it), delete that whole key.

Reboot.

Once rebooted, she can login and it will download the profile and all will be fine.

Yes rename to .bak or .old so its now a different folder name and then delete the registry key.

You can then rebuild the profile with the backup copy.
